Can Steam Cleaners Clean Carpets?

Steam cleaners can clean many things, but not everything. While it is true that steam cleaning machines are effective on most surfaces, these machines have their limitations. Using them on the wrong surfaces can result in damage or incomplete cleaning. It can be very helpful to understand what steam cleaning equipment can be used for and when it should be avoided.

Importance of Carpet Steam Cleaner

One common mistake people make is assuming steam cleaning machines can be used to clean large areas of carpet. It is important to remember that steam cleaning machines are primarily designed to deal with hard surfaces. Still, the machines are effective for smaller spot cleaning jobs on carpets and upholstery. The truth is that a steam cleaner lacks the power needed to clean large stretches of carpet effectively. However, these systems are particularly effective for spot removal of tough stains and deposits that an ordinary carpet cleaner cannot handle.

Given the high levels of temperature that steam cleaners use, carpet steam cleaners, also known as carpet cleaners, extractors or shampooers are a better choice for removing hardened stains and sedimentation that may have penetrated deep into the carpet. However, steam cleaning machines are still a good choice for spot cleaning upholstery and car interiors as well.

However, if cleaning carpets is your primary application, a steam cleaner will not suffice. For these purposes, a low-flow carpet cleaner or carpet steam cleaner is best. These machines inject heated (up to 210F) or non-heated water and solution into carpets. By extracting out the debris-laden water and solution, carpet extractors effectively remove virtually all residues in the carpet fibers. In addition to complete cleaning, these machines can be used to clean large areas of carpet.

Things to Be Aware Of While Using Carpet Steam Cleaner

It is important to remember that steam cleaning machines deal with super-heated water vapor that can reach temperatures up to 360F. This means that, you need to make sure the carpet can withstand these high temperatures. Carpets made of natural fibers, such as wool, can shrink under high heat. There are also synthetic materials that may be very sensitive to high heat. Using best steam cleaners on these types of carpets could result in heat damage or even melting. In some cases, the very high temperatures may result in stains setting permanently into the carpet. In these cases, it is better to utilize non-heated carpet extractors. Steam cleaners may actually make the problem worse.

While steam cleaning machines are powerful systems, they work even better if you use them on stains as soon as possible. It is never a good idea to let a spot or stain sit for a very long time if you have the choice. The longer it remains, the deeper it soaks into the material and the harder it becomes to remove.

Lastly, it is important to know how to use steam cleaning machines the right way. Remember that steam is very hot and can cause damage if it touches your skin. Steam cleaning machines are powerful cleaning systems, but it is important to know where and how they can be used. Opting to use them for spot cleaning jobs on the right types of carpets can be an effective way to deal with stubborn stains. Otherwise, opt for carpet steam cleaners.
